About me

A scientist curious about planetary worlds.

Portrait of Clàudia Soriano Guerrero

I am Clàudia Soriano Guerrero, a postdoctoral research fellow in astrophysics at the University of Southampton and a member of the OASIS group. My research focuses on the physics and modelling of planetary atmospheres, combining magnetohydrodynamics, global circulation models and community model intercomparisons.

My previous and ongoing work includes local three-dimensional MHD simulations of hot and ultra-hot Jupiters, investigating the interaction between atmospheric flows, magnetic fields and perturbations. I also work with global circulation models such as THOR and OASIS. My own research with THOR focuses on superrotation in Earth-like planets, while my collaborations extend to atmospheric modelling of Hycean worlds, Venus and hot Jupiters.

As part of my research, I contribute to CUISINES intercomparison projects, which bring atmospheric models together to compare methods, results and predictions.

I am also actively involved in science communication and outreach. I believe that science should not remain confined to laboratories, universities and research centres, but should be shared with society as a whole. I work to make research more accessible, promote scientific literacy and encourage young people to consider careers in science and research. For me, outreach is part of the scientific profession: it means sharing not only scientific results, but also the people, ideas and career paths behind them.
